Alliance Environmental, Applied Water Management & American Water
In 1984 Ed Clerico formed Applied Water Management (AWM) and directed the development of the company for 15 years. AWM was one of the first firms in the United States to offer an integrated, full-scope water and wastewater utility development service wherein design, construction, operation, finance and resource acquisition were combined into one privatization package.
Under Ed’s leadership, AWM introduced key water/wastewater innovations such as:
| |
 |
Community On-Site Wastewater Systems (COWS)
that employed indirect reuse of highly treated wastewater |
| |
|
via groundwater recharge. |
| |
 |
Water Reuse Systems that involve irrigation of golf courses and lawn areas |
| |
|
|
| |
 |
Water Recycling Systems that provide direct reuse of treated water in buildings for use as flush water, cooling |
| |
|
water and laundry water – these systems
were implemented in schools, offices, shopping malls, stadiums
and eventually residential buildings. |
| |
 |
Responsible Management Entity
(RME) formation under the latest EPA protocol for decentralized |
| |
|
wastewater system management. |
The success of AWM led to its merger with American Water, the largest private water/wastewater utility in the United States. Subsequently, after serving in executive roles within American Water, Ed launched Alliance Environmental.
The Company continues to maintain a close affiliation with the Applied Water Management Group at American Water, and associations with many other professionals and specialists to help foster innovation, competition and value engineering.
